My name is Caroline Cacchio and I am 24 years old.  I am currently teaching in a functional academics high school classroom at Overbrook School for the Blind.  Previously, I taught in the post-secondary transition program at the school to prepare students between the ages 18-21 for after school life including life skills, social skills, and career preparedness.  I started teaching at Overbrook School for the Blind in January 2019!

Growing up, I always wanted to be something different almost every month.  Everything from a forensic odontologist to a social worker.  Something I have always loved to do is teach.  Since the age of 12 I have been teaching dance classes and assisting in dance classes.  During these dance classes I worked with some very special students who truly changed my life.  Entering into college I knew I wanted to be a special education teacher and concentrate on Autism.  However, my mother had other ideas while on a tour of the Education Program at Kutztown University (where I ended up attending).  She was so amazed by the Vision Program, which is only 1 of 4 in the country to offer Teacher of the Visually Impaired Certification during undergraduate studies.  I on the other hand had no interest.  During the first semester I found myself bored and with no challenging classes.  That is when a student from the Vision Program did a presentation in my class and I was hooked.  I then switched to the TVI program the fall of my sophomore year.  I then took summer classes and 5-6 classes a semester to graduate early from Kutztown University to enter the field I was most excited about!  I even had the opportunity to go to Tampa, FL to present research at the national level!

While at Kutztown, the TVI program spent time at Overbrook School for the Blind for observation hours.  After the first day at the school, I was hooked and knew I wanted to work at this school!  In my last semester in student teaching, I was placed in the Overbrook School for the Blind high school department and fell in love with working with older students.  During my first week of student teaching, I was offered a position in the post-secondary transition program and gladly accepted!

Currently, I have a classroom of 6 students who have all different visual impairments and other health impairments.  In my classroom, we have 2 paraeducators who work very hard with the students and myself to make our day run smoothly.  I am so fortunate to have such a great flexible and supportive classroom environment!

Outside of the classroom, I am in graduate school for my Masters in Special Education from West Chester University.  I also teach dance at a local Bucks County, Pa dance school working with the youngest students in the dance school.  I also work at Cherry Blowdry Bar Newtown on the weekends at the front desk and marketing strategies.

If you want to learn more about me, connect about common interests, or have questions about my teaching career feel free to reach out!
